Getting Married in Independence
Independence was founded on June 15, 1847, near the center of Buchanan County, and it is home to 6,064 people (2020 census). Its 1867 Wapsipinicon Mill has been structurally restored and now serves partly as a historical museum, and the post office lobby holds a WPA mural, Postman in the Snow, painted by former resident Robert Tabor.
