Some wedding venues are a place. Potter’s Mill Inn & Event Center is a piece of Bellevue history. The 1843 mill on Mill Creek, just off the Mississippi River, now welcomes weddings, reunions and gatherings of all kinds under Dan and Annie Blitgen, who bought the building in 2025 and spent about a year bringing it back to life.
We have brought our DJ services and photo booth to celebrations at Potter’s Mill, and we always look forward to coming back. Dan is just about the nicest guy you will meet, and what he and Annie are doing with the mill is awesome: it brings a one-of-a-kind wedding venue to Bellevue. They also own the River Rock Inn and Riverview Vacations Resort just down the road. We’re proud to call them partners.
Potter’s Mill was built in 1843 as a flour mill, just a few years after Bellevue served as the first county seat of Jackson County. The mill ground wheat for the region for generations and later ran as a feed mill into the late 1960s. Dr. Daryll and Carolyn Eggers restored the building and opened it as a restaurant and bed & breakfast in 1980, and from 2014 to 2023 it was home to the Flatted Fifth blues and BBQ.
Dan and Annie Blitgen officially purchased the mill in the spring of 2025, spent about a year remodeling it, and reopened it that July as a boutique inn and event center with eight guest suites. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Bellevue sits on the Mississippi River, ringed by high bluffs, in Jackson County, Iowa. The town was named for John D. Bell, an early resident and its first postmaster. When Jackson County was organized in 1838, Bellevue was the only town of consequence in the county and the natural choice for its first county seat, and later elections moved the seat back and forth between rival towns for years. A wedding at Potter’s Mill puts your celebration inside a building that has stood by the Mississippi since before Iowa was a state.
The mill is at 300 Potter Drive in Bellevue, located directly on the Mississippi River. Overnight guests can stay in suites in the Mill itself, at the River Rock Inn, or in cabins on the property, and the banquet and meeting spaces have room for 150 guests. Call Dan and Annie at 563-543-5842, or see their Riverview Vacations Resort & River Rock Inn site and the Potter’s Mill Inn & Event Center listing on Travel Iowa.
We have provided DJ services and our photo booth at weddings and celebrations at Potter’s Mill, including a wedding there this month. The mill’s banquet space gives everyone room to celebrate under one roof, and every event gets its own custom photo strip design, so every guest leaves with a piece of the night.
A historic mill on the river makes the whole weekend feel like a getaway. A few things that help:
Once the date and the space are picked, we can help with the rest of the celebration: wedding DJ, photo booth and more across the Dubuque area and up to 80 miles around. Learn about our Dubuque wedding DJ services, or call or text us.
